


Liv Opdal is solo cellist in the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and associate professor of Cello at the University of Stavanger, Department of Music and Dance.
As a performer she shows above all versatility. Her interests range from Baroque music to contemporary music.
Liv Opdal is an active chamber musician and was a musician at the Stavanger International Chamber Music Festival in 99, 04 and 05. She participates in Stavanger konsertliv through concerts organized by the SSO (chamber music series), New Music and Kyrkjelyd. She is also the initiator and member of Stavanger Contemporary Ensemble.
In 1998, she was with the Oslo Philharmonic and Aage Kvalbein awarded the Grammy Award in the category for contemporary music for the recording of Lasse Thoresen Illuminations, a concerto for two cellos and orchestra, which was also performed during the great contemporary music festival presence in Paris at 05.
Liv Opdal has had many performances both domestically and abroad, and several concerts are transmitted on the radio. She has established close collaboration with pianist Erling Eriksen. Their projects include all the sonatas of Beethoven and Brahms.
In addition to teaching cello at the University of Stavanger, Opdal regularly offers seminars at other institutions. She has guest taught at the University of Turku and NTNU in Trondheim. Besides the cello, she teaches chamber music at the University of Stavanger and acts as group leader in EnB1; Institute Chamber Orchestra, led by Jan Bjøranger.
