Stavanger

Stavanger is Norway's fourth largest city located on the southwest coast of Norway with 115.000 inhabitants. The city was once the centre of Norway’s canning industry. Today, Stavanger serves as the capital of the Norwegian oil sector.

Stavanger is more cosmopolitan and international than any comparable Norwegian city. Visitors tend to fall in love with Stavanger, especially "Old Stavanger", a very pretty and vibrant part of town. This area, near the international ferries, is composed of small, wooden houses and cobble-stone roads. Combine this with an international atmosphere which is blended with the city's own charm. The town center is for shopping, relaxation, movies and nightlife.

In the recent years the city has also emerged as an international cultural city. The Stavanger region has been European Capital of Culture in 2008. Stavanger University has students from more then 40 countries. During the past few years, the influx of international students and researchers to the University of Stavanger has risen at a steady pace and enriched the community with academic, social and cultural diversity.
